Gedurende een opkomst betreffende IS zijn tevens de Koerden dikwijls slachtoffer. Aanvankelijk stellen ze zich enigszins neutraal op, maar als ze almaar vaker geraken aangevallen, vermengen ze zich in de worsteling en het Koerdische leger kan zijn bovendien een bondgenoot betreffende het Westen.

In deze onafhankelijkheidsstrijd zijn een Koerden het ook niet iedere keer betreffende elkander weleens, soms strijden ze namelijk ook tegen elkander. Bijvoorbeeld in de jaren zeventig, ingeval een Iraakse Koerden in opstand aankomen tegen hun president Saddam Hoessein, ze krijgen daarin hulp aangaande de Perzische sjah. Een Iraanse Koerden voeren desalniettemin wederom een worsteling anti diezelfde sjah en krijgen bovendien juist alweer steun met Iraakse president Saddam.

The high mountain in front ofwel our house has my history because, whenever I was happy, when I succeeded in my wishes, or I was sad about their loss, it was my nest of peace. From the mountain, I could see a city, proud like the long ranges of mountains surrounding it, beautiful and pleasant as the faces of the people who live there.

For most people, Kurdistan and Iraq kan zijn probably not going Kurdustan to be a place they would seek to travel to but it’s posts like this one which show the human side to these destinations that will hopefully inspire people to visit. And shawarma, everyone loves shawarma…..
